Homemade Tortilla/Mexican Tortilla Recipe

Homemade Tortilla - tender, warm and simple recipe to prepare. Try out this Homemade Tortilla recipe, you will never want to have store- bought tortilla again. This recipe is with all-purpose flour but get creative with your choice of flour like whole wheat, corn flour, soy or mixture of flours.

Step by Step Instruction with Photos

  1. Sift the flour, salt & baking powder into a large mixing bowl. Add oil & mix with your fingertips to combine.
  1. Stir in warm water, adding little at a time and knead smooth dough. Wrap in plastic and let rest for at least 10 minutes. Divide dough into 8 portions.
  1. Roll each portion on a lightly dusted board into 7-in. circle. To get perfect rounded tortillas, trim off ragged edges & discard. Don't roll the dough out more than once or the tortillas will be hard.
  1. Heat a dry griddle or heavy skillet over high heat for 5 minutes. Cook the tortillas for 30 seconds on each side or until lightly browned.  Wrap tortilla in damp kitchen towel to keep them warm as you cook the other tortillas.
  1. Serve warm. I used to make Veggie Quesadillas.

  • ½ - ¾ cup Warm water
