This post is about Tricolor Sandwich, very simple, kid’s friendly and festive recipe. There can be lots of options to make Tricolor Sandwiches using colorful vegetable with varieties of spreads. Go green with coriander based spread, red with beat, orange with carrot, and purple with red cabbage and so on. We can do green and orange to represent our Indian flag.  A very delicious combination of green-coriander-coconut spread and red layer of creamy carrot-beet-mayonnaise spread complementing each other very well in taste.

Step by Step Instruction with Photos

To make Green Spread

  1. To make the green spread clean and roughly chop the coriander, chili, ginger and garlic.
  1. In a grinder grind everything all together along with chopped items and water as required to a smooth paste. The spread should be thick in consistency. Keep aside.
  1. You can use the spread right away or refrigerate it for later use.

To make Red Spread

  1. For red spread peel and grate carrot and boiled beet.
  1. Mix grated carrot and beet with enough egg-less mayonnaise to make a smooth and creamy paste. Keep aside
  1. You can use the spread right away or refrigerate it for later use.

To make Tricolored Sandwiches

  1. Trim the sides of the bread slices. Keep aside.
  2. To make sandwiches place 3 bread slice on the work top.
  3. Butter 1 bread slices from both sides. And apply green and red spread on the rest 2 breads.
  1. Now place the buttered bread over the red spread bread slice. Lastly arrange the green spread bread slice over buttered bread slice facing upside down. Press gently.
  2. Cut each sandwiches into 2 triangle/striped pieces. Repeat steps 7 to 10 to make one more sandwiches.
  1. Serve immediately or refrigerate cling wrapped for 1-2 days.
