Fresh Fenugreek Flatbread Recipe

Methi Thepla is another flatbread variety made with core ingredient Methi or fresh Fenugreek leaves. Methi Theplas are very light and healthy too. A very good way to add greens in your daily diet specially for kids. Theplas are Indian-Gujrati dish.

This recipe is very easy to prepare and the secret behind the perfect delicious Theplas lies in making perfect dough with right amount of spices and fenugreek leaves. Serve hot this power pack Theplas with plain yogurt or any pickle of your choice.

Step by Step Instruction with Photos

To make Dough

  1. Rinse fresh methi/fenugreek leaves very well in water and drain. Roughly chop and keep aside.
  2. Transfer the chopped leaves in a wide mixing bowl along with whole wheat flour.
  1. Next add in all dry spices: red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala, asafetida, sesame seed, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilis and salt to taste.
  2. Mix everything well.
  1. Now add yogurt and knead very well.
  2. Knead everything to a tight and smooth dough. Methi leaves release water so be careful while adding more yogurt or water.
  3. Keep it aside and let it rest for 10 minutes.

To make Theplas

  1. After 10 minutes divide the dough into 8-10 equal balls.
  2. Now at this point put the griddle on medium heat.
  3. On the dusted board roll each ball into 6-8 inch in diameter and place on the hot griddle/tawa.
  1. Flip the Thepla once one side is partly cooked and drizzle some oil on this side.
  2. Flip the Thepla again and now drizzle some oil on this side too.
  3. Press the Theplas lightly with spatula while cooking and cook evenly till you get golden brown spot in both side.
  1. Serve it hot with plain yogurt or mango pickle. Yum and healthy !! what else do you need?! 😊
